OLAS is a peer-mentoring program for recent Latino immigrants.
An OLAS mentor is a student who provides support and friendship to another student who is new to the United States. This peer mentor helps his/her mentee adjust to life at school.
Both mentors and mentees:
- Learn how to succeed in school, at home, at work, and in many other areas of their life
- Make new positive friendships
- Participate in FUN community service projects, art activities, and physical education
- Discover new talents
- Meet and learn from important, successful people
- Develop leadership skills
- Get ecognized for all their work
The program meets once at week from 3:25 to 4:25 PM throughout the school year. Also, two Mondays a month, participants attend special events.
Students and parents: To join the program or get more information, call Ms. Mayra Vásquez, the program coordinator, at (202) 494-9262 to request an application, or stop by her office
