WAVE After School

On any weekday between the hours of 3:00 to 6:00 PM, students have options for spending their time in activities of high risk or high promise.

WAVE Ater School is a model for an effective program for high school students in an after school setting, usually in partnership with a school. Its focus is on youth development in the relevant context of employability training.

WAVE offers a curriculum[.pdf] that teaches school success skills, career exploration, work maturity, and interpersonal skill development to middle school or high school students in any after school setting. It was written with support from the MCJ Foundation for the first WAVE After School program.

WAVE trains the teachers and helps them establish a youth leadership association[.pdf] that reinforces skills learned in class and gives students an opportunity to confront challenges, experience succes, gain recognition, and feel the impact that today's work has on tomorrow's achievements.

Any community an implement a WAVE After School program using its own local staff or volunteers who will be offered ongoing professional development and technical assistance by the WAVE's national staff.

WAVE After School uses the same principles and teaching strategies that have been proven successful in independent studies of other types of WAVE programs.
