J. Tyler has three decades of experience as a youth professional and trainer. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Masters of Education Degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Before joining WAVE’s national staff in 1980, he directed a local WAVE Program for school dropouts in Boston and worked as a professional mental health counselor. His passion for bettering the lives of economically disadvantaged young people has been the focus of his entire career.
J. directs the delivery of national training and technical assistance services and has coached and trained thousands of youth educators, community volunteers, and program administrators. He designs new programs and services and develops and implements training plans that build the organizational and staff capacity of WAVE’s clients and program partners. His expertise includes group processes, team building, conflict management, effective communication, facilitation, workforce development for youth, and implementing quality youth development practices at the local level.
J. has conducted professional development training and strategic planning sessions for the American String Teachers Board of Directors, the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative, the National Society for Experiential Education, Commission for a Nation of Lifelong Learners, the DC Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America National Conference, the Richmond Public Schools Leadership Institute for Administrators, and The George Washington University Graduate School of Management.
J. Tyler’s publications include “The Futurist Quiz,” JOB READY!
